Joan L. Butler, 74, Hollidaysburg, died Saturday morning at the home of her son Ben, after an extended illness.
She was born in West Loop, daughter of George Washington and Mildred (Wertz) Marlin. She married Glenn B. Butler on May 23, 1970, in Hollidaysburg. He died Sept. 18, 1983.
Surviving are her partner, Harry Greenleaf, with whom she resided; six sons: Ben Butler of Hollidaysburg, Ralph and Marlin Helsley, both of Claysburg, Phil and Steve Helsley, both of West Loop and Joe Helsley in Florida; two daughters: Betty Joann Schultz and Glennette Sue Davis, both of Claysburg; two stepsons: Donald B. Butler and Glenn E. Butler, both of Petersburg; a stepdaughter, Glenda D. Brubaker of Puzzletown; a brother, George Marlin of West Loop; two sisters: Sue Strayer and Vick Ritchey, both of Claysburg; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lynch, who died in November 1998.
Joan had been employed by the Home Nursing Agency. She enjoyed playing the piano for her church.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, by Pastor David Foor. Committal will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
