Longtime Penn State assistant Larry Johnson said he is applying to become the Nittany Lions' next head coach.
Johnson, who is serving as interim head coach during the ongoing search, spoke with reporters this afternoon on a conference call.
"Why not Larry Johnson?" he said when asked what led him to the decision. "I've been here 18 years, and I think I know the lay of the land very well."
Johnson has been a very successful defensive line coach, recruiting many future All-Americans and NFL players. A number of current and former PSU players have expressed on Twitter that they'd like him to become the next head coach.
