John E. Liner Sr., 88, Port Matilda, died Tuesday at his residence.
He was born in Duquesne, son of the late Andrew Sr. and Maria (Tomas) Liner. He was twice married, first to Gladys June Woomer, who died July 10, 1977. He then married Kathryn E. Beamer on Nov. 10, 1979.
Surviving are his wife; seven children: Diane Loesch (Bill) of Port Matilda, Carol Walker (Ralph) of Bellefonte, John E. Jr. (Pam) of Port Matilda, Deborah Wellar of State College, Mary E. Lesser of Bellefonte, Beth Irvin (Bill) of Port Matilda and David in New Jersey; and nine stepchildren: Clarence Woomer (Betsy) of Tyrone, Peggy Woomer, Nancy Conrad (George), Kay Christine (Daniel) and Bill Miller (Janet), all of Bald Eagle, Linda Cushard (Eugene) of Port Matilda, Harold Miller (Sheila) of Altoona, Carol Cowher (Daniel) of Chesapeake, Va., and Karen Corl (Tyler) of Bald Eagle.
He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
In his younger days, John worked at the Port Matilda Brick Yard and then at Cerro Metal Products in Bellefonte. He loved farming, hunting, fishing, ice cream and giving candy to his grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 3, 2014, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, the Rev. David Z. Lewis Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Presbyterian Cemetery, Port Matilda.
