Clair DeVere Stewart, 82, Winchester, Ky., went home to heaven Friday after an extended illness.
He was born in Brookville, son of William Clyde and Nellie Pearle (Johns) Stewart. He was married to the late Gloria Mae (Dunlap) Stewart.
Surviving are two children: David (Emily) of Hurricane, W. Va., and Dr. Jean (Roger) Sutherland of Lexington, Ky.; two grandsons; a brother, William Clyde Jr. of Houston, Texas; a sister, Karen Heckman of Summerville; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear friends and neighbors, Paul and Kay Atchison.
Clair was a graduate of Penn State University and worked many years for GTE Sylvania, both in Altoona and in Winchester, Ky. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Winchester, Ky., and was well known for his service to God through his church, the Christian Business Men's Committee International and many short-term mission trips around the world.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at Central Baptist Church, Winchester, Ky.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Meade Chapel Cemetery, Knox Township, Jefferson County.
