Julius E. Claar, 91, Duncansville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday with his family by his side.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of the late John and Valleree (Helsel) Claar. He married the former Betty Larson on Jan. 30, 1942.
He is survived by his wife; four children: Barry, Gary, Judy and John; nine grandchildren: Heidi, Shawn, Shana, Gary Wayne, Jason, Jennifer, Nicohle, John Jr. and Andrew; 13 great-grandchildren; and three brothers: Francis, Darrell and Galen.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Melville and Ronald; and a granddaughter, Heather.
Mr. Claar was a 1940 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
He served an apprenticeship as a boiler maker for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He retired from the Department of Labor and Industry in 1982.
Julius was a life member of the First United Methodist Church in Hollidaysburg.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, but most of all his family.
Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 4th Ave., Duncansville. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Hollidaysburg, officiated by Pastor Dennis Derr. Committal, with full military honors assisted by Blair County Veterans Honor Guard, will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
