Shirley E. Harten, 89, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Claire Hill and Violet M. (Heberling) Hoffman. She married Robert W. "Bob" Harten Sr. on May 12, 1943, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2010.
Surviving are two sons: David C. of Alexandria, Va., and Robert W. Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Glenn Dale, Md.; and two grandchildren: Drew D. Harten and wife, Jamie, and Aaron R. Harten.
Shirley was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School and retired from Broad Avenue Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician. She was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Juniata. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed doing puzzles, and after retirement she volunteered at Altoona Hospital.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, and from 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral service Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Grace Fellowship Church, North 15th Avenue and Broadway, Juniata, Altoona, by Pastor Rod Lingenfelter.
