HOLLIDAYSBURG - An argument over the television led to a trip to the hospital for one Blair County inmate and charges of aggravated assault against another.
Gerell Shepard, 24, an inmate at the Blair County Prison, is accused of stomping on the head of a fellow inmate Dec. 16 after confronting him in the jail's shower, according to Hollidaysburg police, who investigated the alleged incident.
Police said Shepard and the inmate had argued earlier in the day over the television in the common area. About 9:15 p.m., the inmate was in the shower when Shepard allegedly walked in and took a fighting stance with his fists clenched, according to Shepard's arrest papers. Police said the inmate reached out to grab Shepard and slipped.
As the inmate lay on the shower floor, Shepard allegedly stomped on his head several times until the inmate lost consciousness.
Police said the inmate was treated at UPMC Altoona and suffered a broken nose, two black eyes and needed three staples to close a cut on the back of his head.
Shepard was arraigned Tuesday by Magisterial District Judge Paula Aigner on aggravated assault and related charges and remanded to jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is slated for Jan. 7 before Aigner at Hollidaysburg District Court.
