Charles E. "Chub" Diehl, 76, Altoona, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Homewood at Martinsburg.
He was born in Portage, son of the late Harry and Virginia (Helsel) Diehl. He married Roberta M. Hileman on Jan. 14, 1967, in Winchester, Va.
Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared nearly 47 years of marriage; two daughters, Melissa J. Putt and husband, Bryan, of Duncansville and Charlene A. of Hollidaysburg; three sisters: Judy, Bonnie and Barb; and a brother, Donald.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
Chub was a 1955 graduate of Portage High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. He retired from Bethlehem Steel of Johnstown as a millwright.
Chub was a member of Dry Run Independent Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday schoolteacher. He enjoyed his family, traveling and working with his hands. Chub could repair almost anything.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, and 10 to 11 Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Dry Run Independent Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the church by Pastor John D. Leatherman. Interment will be at Dry Run Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Dry Run Independent Baptist Church.
