H. Glenn "Shorty" Claar, 86, Roaring Spring, died Sunday evening at The Village at Morrisons Cove.
He was born in Klahr, son of the late George Austin and Katharine (Dively) Claar. He married Anna L. Showalter on July 19, 1949, in Winchester, Va.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Barbara C. Wineland and husband, Gary, of Roaring Spring and Glenda Peary and husband, Jeffrey, of Halifax; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Peary Jr.; and a sister, Jeannette Eshelman.
Glenn was a graduate of Roaring Spring High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired from Appleton Papers, Roaring Spring, in 1990 after 43 years of service.
He was a member of First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring. Glenn enjoyed golfing, the NFL and spending time with his family. He was a life member of Murray-Appleman American Legion Post 147 and Ray-Camp VFW Post 7689, both in Roaring Spring.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, Pastor Joe Surin officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Arrangements are by Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring.
