A Friday evening evening fire in the Fairview section of Altoona forced 10 people in five families to abandon an apartment building, emergency responders said Saturday.
Emergency dispatchers were called at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Altoona Fire Department Assistant Chief Scott Douglas said. Firefighters arrived at 1117 21st Ave. within minutes and found the inhabitants outside, he said.
No one inside was hurt, Douglas said, and firefighters cleared the scene without any injuries, Douglas said. None of the building's inhabitants had to be removed, he said.
Seven adults and three children from five families were displaced after the fire, American Red Cross representatives said in a news release.
Douglas said the fire's cause is not yet clear. Investigators revisited the scene Saturday, he said.
