Luella M. Gaida, 89, Ashville, died Monday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.
She was born in Ashville, daughter of the late John and Minnie (Eckenrode) Watt.
Surviving are 11 children: David (Judy Amico) of Whartonsville, N.C., Mary Catherine "Sis" Wombacher (Dan) of Altoona, Steven (Allison Trader) of Uniontown, Patrick (Wilma Rickabaugh) of Ashville RD, Shirley Reese (Bob) of Altoona, Diane Markley (Rick) of Altoona, Beverly Diehl (Randy) of Ashville RD, Jean White (Jeff Weber) of Patton, Christine Myers (Dave) of Bellwood, Daniel (Margaret Stiles) of Blandburg and Jennifer Gaida of Fort Worth, Texas; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Carol (Penteck) Gaida of Chest Springs; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, on Nov. 30, 2006; a son, Ronald; a son-in-law, Lee White; two brothers: Philip and Thomas; and a sister, Harriet McConnell. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Luella was a member of Chest Springs Senior Citizens and St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville. She enjoyed her many friends, crafts, games and playing cards. She was a devoted and loving wife and loved spending time with her family. She blessed many lives with a kind, gentle and compassionate spirit and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. A mother to anyone who came into her life, she spread her love and faith in God to all.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, the Rev. Sean Code as celebrant. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Altoona.
