Robert J. "Rob" Beiswenger, 54, Altoona, died Saturday at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, a result of Lou Gehrig's disease.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Lawrence W. and Irene M. (Montler) Beiswenger. He married Deborah G. Rader-Fornwalt on July 11, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona. He was previously married to Lisa A. Godish, who died July 7, 2005.
Surviving are his wife, Debbie; two sons: Matthew R. and Ryan J., both of Glasgow; a stepdaughter, Rachael A. Fornwalt, of Columbia, Md.; a stepson, Brother Richard J. Fornwalt, T.O.R., of Washington, D.C.; a brother, John L. (Mickey) of Altoona; two special nephews: Trevor and Clinton, both of Altoona; and many cousins and friends that he loved.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Shirley Rader, on Dec. 3, 2013.
Rob was a 1977 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Rob retired in 2009 as a corrections officer at SCI Cresson with 22 years of service.
Rob was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. He was a member of Catholic War Veterans, Korean War Veterans, UVA and Bavarian Aid Society. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping and spending time with his dogs, Sasha and Reilly.
Rob was a man of great faith with a kind, gentle spirit.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home, where a Vigil for the Deceased will be celebrated during the visitation. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, with Monsignor Robert C. Mazur officiating. Committal Rites will be held at St. Bridget Cemetery, Lilly.
