Two people lost their lives on a snow-covered road in Allegheny Township, according to police.
A two-vehicle accident Saturday morning claimed the lives of 53-year-old Scott Francis Sanders and 28-year-old Danyelle Nichole Dean, 28, both of Altoona, according to Allegheny Township police.
Police said the accident occurred about 11 a.m. when Sanders, who was driving a 2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara XL7 east on Sugar Run Road "at a speed greater than reasonable on the snow covered roadway," lost control of the SUV, which slid sideways into the oncoming lane.
A 1995 Chevrolet 1500 extended cab pickup truck driven by William Roy Chappell Jr., 47, of Portage, hit the passenger side of Sanders' SUV, killing Sanders and Dean, his sole passenger.
Sanders and his passenger, Dean, were pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Blair County Coroner Jeffrey Guyer.
The victims suffered multiple blunt force trauma, police said.
Chappell was taken to UPMC Altoona with severe injuries and was listed in serious condition Saturday night.
Allegheny Township police were assisted at the scene by Duncansville Borough police, Allegheny Township volunteer fire and rescue personnel, the Kittanning Trail Volunteer Fire Department, Gallitzin Volunteer Fire Department, as well as Hollidaysburg and Duncansville ambulance services.
