Arvella M. Weirich, 91, Duncansville, passed away Friday at Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Brockway, daughter of William and Jennie (Starr) Smith. She married Albert L. Weirich, her loving and devoted husband of 69 years, on Oct. 2, 1944.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Linda of Duncansville and grandsons: J.D. Weirich and Ben Turben; a son, Bradley (Robin) of Hollidaysburg and grandsons: Zachary and Matthew; and a brother, Donald Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Virgil, Ken, Dale and Stacey; and three sisters: Marie, Ilene and Helen.
Arvella started out working at Western Union, writing telegraphs concerning deceased soldiers. She then worked at Brockway Glass as an office worker/bookkeeper. Later she was employed as a bookkeeper for Bucyrus-Erie and retired as a clerical worker for Scott Enterprises.
Arvella was a Methodist by faith; and over the years, as she and Albert moved from town to town, she stayed active, serving in roles such as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Lads and Lassies Square Dance Group that she founded along with her husband.
Arvella liked to crochet, sew, garden, cook, play cards, read and travel. She also served as a Cub Scout den mother and enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.
Friends will be received from 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc., Brockway, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Pastor Richard Harter, officiating. Burial will take place in Temple Cemetery, Hazen.
