The time-honored assembly of cadets and midshipmen on the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia for a "March On" will be televised along with the Army-Navy game today.
It will also feature two life-long Hollidaysburg residents who will be serving in the U.S. Army and Navy after graduation.
Ashylnn Soellner is a senior at Navy. Jared Heslop is a senior at West Point.
"Both of these cadets and Midshipmen are highly ranked," said David Diedrich, West Point admissions office liaison to central Pennsylvania.
"It's a rare occurrence to have two people from the same hometown, and one from each side in the March On - at least from anywhere around here," he said.
Judy Heslop said her son's interest in joining the military began in junior high school. He decided he wanted to go to West Point when he was in ninth grade, she said.
Heslop, a company commander, will have his name and hometown of Hollidaysburg announced during the March On. He was voted to rank of commander by his peers and West Point officers.
Heslop is a 2010 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area.
Soellner, a 2009 graduate of Hollidaysburg, is a soccer standout at the Naval Academy.
She was the team's most valuable player as a freshman and earned Patriot League first- and second-team recognition the last two years.
The Midshipmen finished Soellner's senior year with a 16-5 record.
"My wife and I are very proud of our daughter for being part of the Naval Academy and accomplishing what she has in the four years she's been there," David Soellner said.
