CLAYSBURG - Claysburg-Kimmel's backcourt combination of Abby Kulick and Madison Ickes will give a lot of teams problems this season. The tandem proved too touch for Central on Monday.
Led by Kulick and Ickes, Claysburg defeated the Lady Dragons 60-45 to move to 2-0 on the young season.
Kulick scored six of her team-high 14 points and assisted on another basket during an 8-2 run in the final three minutes of the first half that gave the Lady Bulldogs an insurmountable nine-point lead at the break.

Kulick also made three steals, dished out five assists and grabbed five rebounds.
"That's a full night," Claysburg coach Jeff Appleman said. "Abby put on a clinic at point guard. She does a lot of things you can't coach. She knows when to take charge and when to pull it out and slow things down."
Ickes finished with 12 points and four steals.
"We didn't want to get into that type of game. We don't matchup too well with their guards," Central coach Mike Horton said. "When the pace of the game speeds up, we end up in bad situations. It's something we'll continue to work on in practice."
Four Lady Bulldogs scored in double digits. Alexis Locke had 13 points, and Paige Burk added 11.
"That was the best game Alexis Locke has played since I've been here," Appleman said. "Liz Weiland had some big offensive rebounds, and Kari Glass was solid."
Claysburg opened up an eight-point lead early in the second quarter on Burk's back-to-back 3-pointers, but Central answered with five straight points on a Mikaela McGraw trey and a Laura Ritchey jump shot.
That's when Kulick took over, scoring on a lay in, a spinning runner in the lane and a pair of free throws. She also squeezed a pass inside to Locke for a layup. The spurt put Claysburg up 34-25 at halftime.
Central (1-2) scored the first two buckets of the second half on a Ritchey jump shot from the corner and Ashley Smith's follow of her own miss. Appleman quickly called timeout.
"We were taking too many outside shots. We needed to get back to using the dribble drive like we discussed at halftime," Appleman said.
The Lady Bulldogs immediately went inside with Burk dishing to Locke for a layup. Ickes then scored on the fastbreak off a long outlet pass from Kulick.
"They had two real good spurts. We tried to come back, but we're not an offensive machine right now," Horton said. "If we can maintain the same intensity we played with [Monday] and develop a deeper bench as the season goes along, we'll be in good shape."
Smith led Central with a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. McGraw and Marissa Snyder scored 10 apiece and Ritchey added eight points.
