BEDFORD - A man died in an early morning fire Monday at a Bedford County house, state police said.
Authorities haven't identified the man, whom responders found inside the burned house early Monday morning. An autopsy Monday identified smoke inhalation as the cause of death, Bedford County Chief Deputy Coroner Russell Styer reported.
A toxicology report is pending, police said.
The fire broke out about 4 a.m., state police said, at 177 Warmuth Lane, a rural road about eight miles south of Bedford.
A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze, troopers said in a report.
The Bedford Fire Department responded to the fire, police said. Firefighters from Bedford and Cumberland Valley departments did not return calls Monday.
The victim's identity will be released "at a later date," police said.
