Ernest D. "Ernie" Hetrick, 85, Williamsburg, went home to be with the Lord peacefully Wednesday morning at his home.
He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late Ernest F. and Ruth (Sollenberger) Hetrick. He married S. Evelyn Casteel on June 19, 1949, at the Williamsburg Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years; four sons: Ernest C. and wife, Diane, of Williamsburg, Barry L. and wife, Karen, of Hollidaysburg, Brian E. and wife, Debbie, of Tequesta, Fla., and Bradley A. and wife, Sue, of Williamsburg; a daughter, Lisa A. Meadows and husband, Brad, of Hollidaysburg; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a stepsister, Jodi Wade of Sun City West, Ariz.; and a cousin, Charles Fornwalt of Covington, Va., with whom Ernie was raised.
Ernie was a 1946 graduate of Williamsburg High School. After graduation, he was employed as a machine operator for the Williamsburg Paper Mill for 19 years and then as a production supervisor for ELCO, Huntingdon, for 19 years. He then built homes for Lifestyle Homes, a construction company owned by his son, Brian, for more than 12 years.
Ernie was a lifetime member of Williamsburg Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and church board member. He served on the Williamsburg Borough Council for more than 30 years and also served on the Blair County Planning Commission and Williamsburg Lions Club. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling and dancing.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Williamsburg Church of the Brethren, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, Pastor Allen J. Baker Jr. officiating. Private interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be given to Williamsburg Church of the Brethren Deacons Fund.
