Nicholas A. Pellegrine, 83, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of Umberto and Adella (Marinucci) Pellegrine. He married Miriam Krape on Nov. 14, 1976.
Surviving are his wife; eight children: Niki (Gary) Moyer, John (Sharon) Pellegrine, Lori (Greg) Robertson, Steve (Mary Ann) Pellegrine, Bill Wible Jr., Alan (Linda) Wible, Scott (Imola) Wible and Colleen (Tom) DeLeo; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Harry (Donna) and Steve (Theresa); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew; a grandson, Tommy DeLeo Jr.; and a sister, Edith Venturato.
Nick was a graduate of Altoona High School. He retired from the U.S. Army as a chief warrant officer with 23 years of service in the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers. He also retired from Blair Sign Co. as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Nick enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking, Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football, family picnics, winemaking, his swimming pool and the enjoyment of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
