When Penn State wrestling star Ed Ruth was suspended for a month, coach Cael Sanderson told reporters on Nov. 13 that it was because he broke a team rule.
Various news agencies were reporting on Monday that Ruth was charged with a DUI by State College Police at 1:59 a.m. on Nov. 13 on East College Avenue in State College.
Ruth was trying to park in front of a Taco Bell when his vehicle struck a tree and ended up on the curb. Ruth's blood alcohol level was 0.281 percent, and the legal limit is 0.08.
Ruth faces misdemeanor chages for general impairment while driving and his blood alcohol level. His preliminary hearing is Jan. 8 at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
The two-time NCAA champion is eligible to return to the lineup on Dec. 15 against Ohio State. He wrestled unattached at the Mat-Town Tournament over the weekend and breezed to the 184-pound title.
