Dewey Allen Wertz, 75, Duncansville, died unexpectedly Monday.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Donald Evan and Irene (Ebright) Wertz. He married Colleen McGowan on June 17, 1961; she preceded him in death in 2011.
He is survived by and will be sorely missed by his son, Allen, and grandson, Evan, of Ellicott City, Md.; and his son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Terina, and granddaughter, Sydney, of Stevensville, Md. He is also survived by a brother, Gary, of Altoona, and a sister, Pauline Brongil, of Tacoma, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.
Dewey attended Altoona High School and served honorably in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1992 as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service after 28 years of service.
Dewey was of the Protestant faith, and a member of the American Legion and Duncansville VFW. For many years he also enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camps in Pennsylvania, as well as spending time in Maryland with his family.
Friends and family will be received 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona. A 12:30 p.m. funeral service will be held Monday at Jones Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Peggy Bonsell, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in Altoona.
