My teenage son recently lamented that the Altoona area has no skate park.
Skate boarders and scooters can be seen on our city streets in ever-increasing numbers.
These teens and tweens need a safe and challenging environment to hone their skills. These kids are as devoted to skate and scoot as our athletes are to' the more conventional sports.
It's a fact that teen obesity is on the rise. Skating and scooting are extreme exercises which will help our kids stay fit.
I believe the implementation of a skate park would be a win-win situation for the city and athletes alike.
A small fee could be charged for park use. The city could then use the revenue for park upkeep and security.
Let's give our kids the opportunity to pursue the sport of their choice in a safe and lawful manner.
