Charles E. Redenberger, 86, of Homewood at Martinsburg died Nov. 7, 2013, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles M. and Ameila A. (Auerbeck) Redenberger. He married Joan Weaver on June 5, 1951, in Warm Springs, Va.
Charles was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School, and he attended Juniata College and received his master's from West Chester State Teachers College. He served in the U.S. Army stateside from 1945-47. He retired in June 1986 after 30 years as a music teacher in the Altoona Area School District.
Charles was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Martinsburg. He had also been a member of the church choir at St. James Lutheran Church, Altoona, and a member of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra since 1942, as well as past concertmaster. He was known for his chamber music and was founder of the Altoona Youth String Orchestra from 1962-68. He also conducted the Mount Aloysius College Orchestra and was well known as a violinist and music teacher.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the Homewood at Martinsburg chapel with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Altoona Area School District Foundation or the Altoona Symphony Orchestra.
