An Altoona man is behind bars on charges he sexually assaulted a young child.
Altoona police took Gary D. Stehley Jr., 33, of 253 Forshey Lane into custody Friday morning at his workplace, a retail store. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Auker on 10 felony counts that include rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and indecent sexual assault.
It was the second time Auker has arraigned Stehley on charges related to the alleged sexual assault of a child. Altoona police arrested Stehley a year ago, Oct. 24, 2012, on charges he molested a 12-year-old girl in early 2012, the same time period police now say Stehley also sodomized a 7-year-old boy, according to court records.
According to Altoona police, medical records support the boy's claim that between Jan. 1 and March 1, 2012, Stehley sexually abused him.
Police allege Stehley also forced the boy to perform oral sex on him and performed oral sex on the child. The alleged victim told police that the incidents were painful and that Stehley would yell at him to stop crying. The boy also told police Stehley threatened to kill him if he told anyone, police noted in the affidavit of probable cause in the case.
At the time of his arrest Friday, Stehley was free on a unsecured $15,000 bond and awaiting trial on indecent assault and corruption of minors charges stemming from allegations made by a 12-year-old girl that Stehley had tried to kiss her Feb. 8, 2012.
The girl told investigators Stehley began rubbing her back beneath her coat before rubbing against her. When he tried to kiss her, she pushed him and got away, police said.
Auker bound that case over to Blair County Court after a hearing in January of this year in which the girl testified. Stehley's court appointed attorney, Warren L. Crilly III, said Friday that he is representing Stehley on the case involving the 12-year-old girl, but at this time he wasn't representing him on the latest charges.
Stehley's bail for the charges involving the boy was set by Auker at $40,000 cash, and he was lodged in Blair County Prison with a preliminary hearing slated for Dec. 4.
