Armando L. Cataldo, 91, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of Nunzio and Agata (Salina) Cataldo. He married Angela Venturato on July 10, 1942, and she died Feb. 25, 1999.
Surviving are three daughters: Sandy (Ron) Hilling of Erie, Anita (Tom) Frank of State College and Judi (Fred) Burtnett of Johnstown; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen M. Lioy of Altoona; a brother-in-law, Daniel Venturato; his companion, Julia Varlotta; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Mary DelGrosso, Anna Renzo, Elizabeth Marone and Josephine Lustick; four brothers: Anthony, Albert, Samuel and Thomas Sr.; and a grandson, Mathew Burtnett.
Armando was a graduate of Altoona High School, and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a private first class. He retired from Conrail as an electrician with 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and was a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
Armando was an avid bowler and golfer.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 22, 2013, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
