The Rev. Dr. Paul J. Kane, 70, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in Pittsburgh.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Ann (Gustafson); three sons: Eric (Jennifer) of Arbor Vitae, Wis., Geoffrey (Pamela) of Tarentum and John (Amy) of Franklin Park; four grandchildren: Caithlin, Zachary, Adeline and Sadie; a sister, Lois (Nevin) Davis; a sister-in-law, Carol (Lenard) Berglund; an aunt, Frances Colberg; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Paul and Mary Kay (Shannon) Kane; and a grandson, Emery Paul.
Dr. Kane was emeritus professor of English at Concord University, Athens, W.Va., where he taught courses in medieval and Renaissance literature. He was also an ordained Lutheran minister who served as a parish pastor in central and western Pennsylvania.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Schellhaas Funeral Home, 388 Center Ave., Pittsburgh. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, 615 Grant St., Pittsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to First English Evangelical Lutheran Church Bequest and Memorial Fund or to Forbes Hospice, c/o Forbes Health Foundation, 2570 Haymaker Road, Monroeville, PA 15146, in memory of the Rev. Dr. Kane.
