EVERETT - A driver took an Everett man's pickup truck without permission Thursday, then led police on a high-speed chase from Bedford County across the Maryland border before a crash left the driver hospitalized, state police said.
On Wednesday, Joseph Clingerman of Everett reported that someone - a suspect isn't named in reports - took his 2001 Dodge truck without permission. State police said they found the truck about 2:40 a.m. Thursday in Bedford Township, and a chase ensued.
The driver allegedly led police for miles on Route 220 toward the Maryland border. Maryland police were notified, according to reports, and officers there deployed tire-deflation devices to stop the fleeing motorist.
The truck hit the deflation strips, and the driver soon lost control, with the truck skidding off the road and rolling.
The driver was ejected from the truck. Authorities transported the suspect to Cumberland Hospital, police said.
State police at Bedford said additional information, including the suspect's name, wasn't available Thursday afternoon.
