Rusty Alan Johnston, 46, rural East Freedom, passed away peacefully and was ushered into glory to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Friday morning at his residence.
He was the son of Lynn F. and Dorothy E. (Hicks) Johnston. He married Rhonda L. Kinkade on Aug. 12, 1995, in Puzzletown.
Surviving are his wife; three children: Zachary, Hannah and Leah, all at home; his parents of rural Duncansville; and three brothers: Scott L. of Bear, Del., Ritchie B. and wife, Marsha, of East Freedom and Timothy D. and wife, Dana, of Bellemead, Altoona.
Rusty was a 1985 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School and a 1989 graduate of Lancaster Bible College with an associate degree in Bible. He completed his millwright apprenticeship program in 1993 and was a member of the Millwrights and Pile Drivers Local Union 2235, Pittsburgh. He was currently employed as a supervisor for Kiewit Corp. at the Homer City Generating Plant.
He enjoyed sports and formerly coached basketball and soccer at Blair County Christian School, rural Duncansville. He also enjoyed watching his own children participate in various sports.
Rusty was an active member of Puzzletown Road Bible Church, Newry, where he served as song leader, choir director, church board member and Sunday school teacher. Though his pilgrimage here on Earth was short, his life had a profound impact on those who knew and loved him. He had a deep love for the Lord and used his talents to serve him.
John 11:25-26 reads: "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Puzzletown Road Bible Church, Pastors Ken Korns and Jon Gross officiating. Interment will follow at Dry Run Cemetery, rural Duncansville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Puzzletown Road Bible Church Missionary Fund.
