John E. Osewalt, 89, formerly of Sixth Avenue, Altoona, died early Thursday morning at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was born in Philipsburg, son of the late Ellis and Agnes (Scott) Osewalt. He married Betty I. Humerick on July 24, 1952, in Las Vegas, Nev., and she preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2009.
Surviving are two children: Deborah E. Shaffer of Williamsburg and Steven J. and wife, Cynthia, of Altoona; two grandchildren: Brian J. Shaffer and wife, Erin, of Baltimore, Md., and Karla R. Paonessa and husband, Matthew, of Hollidaysburg; and four great-grandchildren: Samson P. and Jacob Shaffer and Cohen and David Paonessa.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
John was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and Korea, and he retired from the McLanahan Corp. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Altoona.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
