Francis C. Krug, 79, Ebensburg, passed away Wednesday at his home.
He was born in Spangler, son of the late Reed and Katherine (Pfiester) Krug. He married Nancy Lubert, formerly of Hastings, on May 18, 1968.
Surviving are his wife; four brothers: Dalvin (Janet) of York, Edward (Jean) of Cherry Tree, James (Eleanor) of South Fork and Paul of Cherry Tree; and many beautiful nieces and nephews and a grandniece.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Katherine Smarsh.
Fran was a graduate of Barnesboro Area High School and also of an electronic and communications technical school in Washington, D.C. He was the previous owner of the radio station WEND 1580 AM, Ebensburg, where he hosted the "Fran K." show and his wife, Nancy, hosted "Nancy's Polka Beat from the County Seat." He was also the previous owner of and retired from his business Telecom Electronics in Ebensburg, where he sold and serviced police, fire and ambulance communication equipment from seven towers located in the area.
He was a popular ham radio operator and a lifetime member of the Horseshoe Amateur Radio Club and the Cambria Radio Club with the call sign KA3ZYC.
Fran was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He and his wife were pleased to be able to donate the lights that illuminate the church steeple and to donate their favorite saints' statues, St. Benedict and his twin sister, St. Scholastica, that grace the front entrance of the church.
He was a member of the Ebensburg Rotary Club, serving in all positions and receiving the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the national organization. He participated in the community's holiday celebrations, and his specialty was making potato soup for the fall Potato Festival from his secret recipe, now buried in the back yard.
Visitation will be held privately for family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
