Michael R. Winkler, 60, Altoona, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness.
He was the son of the late Robert G. and Helen S. (Palochko) Winkler. He married Linda Luciano Drabic on Sept. 5, 2013.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Tessa M. Antolick and husband, Brock A., of State College and Katrina M. Winkler of Altoona; a stepdaughter, Lisa Drabic of Orlando, Fla.; three siblings: Greta A. Strittmatter and husband, Caleb, of Wilmington, N.C., Gregory and wife, Linda, of Sykesville, Md., and Alexia Gable of Charlottesville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Michael is also survived by his parents-in-law, James and Rita B. Luciano of Altoona; a sister-in-law, Lori L. Pollard and husband, Dave, of Anchorage, Alaska; and a brother-in-law, Michael Luciano and wife, Rochelle, of Altoona. He formerly was married to Kay A. (McKinney) Winkler.
Michael was a 1971 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and a 1975 graduate of Penn State University. He retired from Blair County Children, Youth and Family Services after more than 37 years of service. He was accredited in Child Protective Services.
Michael was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and he enjoyed antiquing, flea markets and exercising.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
