James R. Snyder Sr., 83, Hollidaysburg, died Sunday at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, after an extended illness.
He was born in Duncansville, son of the late Elmer J. and Minnie M. (Teeter) Snyder. He married Ida Mae Mattern on July 26, 1952, in Canoe Creek.
Surviving are his wife; two sons: Curtis (Brenda) of Tipton and Daniel (Heidi) of Duncansville; seven grandchildren: Amanda, Jenna, Rebecca, Angela, Samantha, Olivia and Emily; and a sister, Isabel of Altoona.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Jr.; a sister, Geraldine; and three brothers: Charles, Fred and Donald.
James was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School. He had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Maximon machine shop as a welder, and retired from Appleton Papers Inc. in 1993 as a construction welder with 24 years of service.
James loved to hunt, fish and tinker in his garage.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, Pastor Robert Stump officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in James' memory.
