Dorothy M. Smychynsky, 81, Elmora, passed away Monday at Cambria Care Center, Ebensburg, surrounded by her family.
She was born in St. Boniface, daughter of the late Paul and Agatha (Thomas) Weakland.
Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Paul J. Smychynsky; three daughters: Rita Venesky and husband, George, of Chardon, Ohio, Rose Sutton and husband, Charles, of Chest Springs and Sheila Knee and husband, Larry, of Elmora; two sons: Thomas (Debra) of Elmora and Paul (Kathy) of Thompson, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; five sisters: Patricia Link of Hastings, Ruth Ott of Pittsburgh, Ethel Cunningham of St. Benedict, Margaret "Peggy" Boothman of Northern Cambria and Cinda Sodmont of Hastings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Peppetti; and a brother, Fred Weakland.
Dorothy was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Benedict VFW. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church, where she volunteered much of her time and talents serving the church community.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved time spent with her family, playing cards with her sisters, bingo and visiting the casino with her daughter. She was well known for her delicious baked goods, which she made for many years with the help of her husband, Paul.
Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, following a viewing in the Boniface Wimmer Room beginning at 9 a.m. Committal will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
