John W. Reilly Sr., 65, Duncansville, died Friday at his residence after an extended battle with cancer.
He was born in Weehawken, N.J., son of the late Thomas M. and A. Hazel (Reichert) Reilly. He married Janie Montgomery in 1973 in Bethesda, Md.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years; two daughters: Jessica L. Sorge of Duncansville and Janette E. Reilly in Illinois; three sons: John "Jay" Jr. of Roaring Spring, Jeff T. of Hollidaysburg and James R. in North Dakota; four grandchildren: Kylie, Alexis, Keara and Jacob; and a sister, Faye DiSavino in Florida.
John was a 1986 graduate of Johnstown Regional Police Academy and a 1996 graduate of Mount Aloysius with an A.S. in criminology. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1965-74.
John was a police officer for 24 years, retiring from field service in East Freedom in 2011, where he remained Chief of Police until his death. He served as Past Master of Portage Lodge 220 F&AM.
John was an avid camper and enjoyed visiting Gettysburg.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Puzzletown Road Bible Church. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Freedom Township Veterans Memorial Project.
