Three teams from the Mirror coverage area claimed top seeds for the District 6 soccer playoffs, which begin Tuesday with a showdown between the Altoona and Hollidaysburg girls.
The Bishop Guilfoyle girls, Hollidaysburg boys and Tyrone boys are ranked No. 1 in their respective classes.
The BG girls, with just one defeat, lead the six-team Class A field and will play their first game in the semifinals on Thursday against the winner of Penns Valley and Bishop McCort. The Moshannon Valley girls are ranked sixth in Class A and will play at No. 3 Richland in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
The Hollidaysburg boys lead the four-team Class AAA field and will host Central Mountain at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals. No. 3 Altoona will travel to No. 2 State College on Tuesday in the other semifinal, and the two winners will square off in the finals on Thursday.
The Tyrone boys are No. 1 in Class AA and will await the winner of Wednesday's quarterfinal game between No. 5 Juniata and No. 4 Bishop Carroll, which will be held at Mansion Park at 6 p.m. The Tyrone boys will then get the winner in the semifinals on Oct. 29.
In the other AA boys quarterfinals, No. 7 Huntingdon plays at No. 2 Bellefonte on Thursday, and No. 6 Philipsburg-Osceola faces No. 3 Forest Hills at Richland on Tuesday.
The Altoona and Hollidaysburg girls, who split two games during the regular season, will play in the AAA semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hollidaysburg. The winner will then face either No. 4 Central Mountain or No. 1 State College in the finals on Thursday.
Four teams from the Mirror coverage area will compete in the nine-team Class AA girls field. No. 9 Bishop Carroll and No. 8 Tyrone meet in a first-round game at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mansion Park, No. 7 Bedford plays No. 2 Westmont Hilltop on Thursday at Richland, and No. 3 Huntingdon plays No. 6 Juniata at Bellefonte at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
