JOHNSTOWN - Bishop Carroll's Tyler Janosik helped the Huskies overcome a slow start Friday night at Greater Johnstown as he rushed for all but 33 of his game-high 165 yards in the second half and also scored three touchdowns to spark a 47-35 comeback victory over the Trojans.
The Huskies (5-3) fell behind the Trojans (3-5) by 15 in the first half. Two of the four first-half Bishop Carroll turnovers were converted into points by Johnstown, including a 55-yard fumble return for the game's initial score by Trey Andrews.
After the Huskies tied it on a 1-yard sneak by Brody Shuty, Andrews again struck for the Trojans by returning the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown.
Following a Shuty interception on the subsequent series, Johnstown capitalized when Taurean Jones found Willie Robinson for a 48-yard score on a tipped ball that produced an eventual 22-7 halftime lead for the Trojans.
That set the stage for a dominant second half for the Huskies.
"We made a few adjustments that we thought we could exploit," Carroll coach Greg Snyder said. "Janosik is our go-to guy, but everybody stepped up. Our line just got mad and took over in the second half."
The Huskies seized momentum with three consecutive third quarter touchdowns. Alex Repko, who finished with 100 yards, bolted 53 yards to the end zone on the first snap of the second half.
Bishop Carroll recovered the ensuing squib kick at the Johnstown 39, and three straight Janosik carries led to a 15-yard touchdown that pulled the Huskies within 22-19.
Late in the quarter, Shuty converted a fourth-and-three in a big way when he broke free for a 32-yard touchdown that gave the Huskies their first lead at 26-22.
A 39-yard catch by Kareem Gibson on the following series and a subsequent personal foul penalty against Bishop Carroll set up Terrell Jones's 1-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth to regain a 2-point edge for the Trojans.
"I'm proud of our effort, but we just didn't score enough points to win," Johnstown coach Tony Penna, Jr. said.
Janosik quickly brought the Huskies back with two carries covering 68 yards, including a 24 yard score that put BC back on top for good at 34-28.
After Marty Lessard's interception on the ensuing series that was returned to the Johnstown 16, Janosik scored his third touchdown just two plays later to put the Huskies firmly in control at 40-28.
Lessard added a late rushing score for the Huskies, and Jones then returned the ensuing kickoff for an 86-yard touchdown to set the eventual final.
