Joseph N. Caputo, 97, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was born in Ripacandida, Italy, son of Michael and Cynthia (Maroscia) Caputo. He married Josephine Bruno on Aug. 12, 1942, and she died May 12, 2012.
Surviving are two sons: Joseph Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren: Cara, Nicholas and Andrea; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Alvera Mascitelli of Altoona.
Joe served as a private in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He also belonged to the A&J Iaia American Legion Post and Bavarian Aid Society.
Joe enjoyed gardening, bowling and crossword puzzles.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
In memory of Joe, contributions may be given to the Mount Carmel Restoration Fund.
