Floyd D. "Pie" Garman, 92, formerly of Pinecroft, died Wednesday evening at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Pinecroft, son of the late John and Annie (Forshey) Garman. He was twice married, first to Betty M. Miller on March 15, 1943, in Bellwood; she died in 1992. He then married Bertie J. (Detwiler) Leonard in 1994.
Surviving are his wife of Altoona; two daughters: Joyce M. (Gregory) Donnelly of Altoona and Nancy L. (Kenneth) Burcham of Greenwood, Ind.; 10 grandchildren: Tracy Anderson, William (Brenda) Himes, Beth (Ross) Hoover, Cristy (Will) Roleson, Holly Steele, Amber (Jeremy) Rose, Chad (Gwen) Donnelly, Meredith (Rodney) Gatling, Lee Ann (Scott) Uecker and Aaron Burcham; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was the last of his immediate family, preceded in death by four brothers: Ellsworth "Roy," Warren "Chub," Lewis "Clyde" and Donald "Dick."
Pie was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII, and he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five bronze stars and WWII Victory Medal. He retired as a brake shoe reliner at Beasley Motor Rebuilders, Altoona. He was a member of Riggles Gap Bible Church and VFW and John M. Anderson American Legion, Bellwood.
Pie loved music. He enjoyed playing the accordion and collecting N-gauge trains. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, Pastor William Ice officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
