Ruth Helen Hammel, 91, Claysburg, passed away Sunday surrounded by her loving family at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring.
She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Edgar and Nancy (Emigh) Miller. She was twice married, first to Joseph Bowser, then to Robert Elwood Hammel, both of whom preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters: Joann Helen Bennett and husband, Lewis, Patsy Claar and husband, Fay, and Betty Dean; three sons: Russell Bowser, Robert Hammel and wife, Joyce, and Kenny Hammel and companion, Tammy; 11 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Twila Benton.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Charles Bowser; two brothers: Carl and Robert Miller; a grandson, Gary W. Knisely; and a great-grandson, David Bowser Jr.
Ruth retired as a cook from Peggy's Diner in 1994 after 15 years of service. She was a member of the Claysburg Church of the Brethren, and she enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at the Claysburg Church of the Brethren, 577 Bedford St., Claysburg, Pastor Ronald Bashore officiating. Interment will be at Claysburg Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to The Village at Morrisons Cove or her church.
