Gladys R. "Roxie" Brower, 88, of Tyrone died peacefully with her daughters by her side Friday at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Pricedale, daughter of John and Marie (Harpster) McKinney. On Dec. 3, 1945, in Harrisburg, she married Harry Brower. He died on March 26, 1996.
Surviving are two daughters: Gladys Emigh and husband, Eugene, of Tyrone, Shirley Boyd and husband, Charles, of Tyrone; four grandchildren: David, Kris, Charles and Michael; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Mary McKinney of Tyrone; and a brother, Samuel McKinney of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Brower had been employed at Seabrook Blanching, Tyrone, as peanut sorter for 10 years and also had worked at J.R. Wald during WWII.
She was a member of the Pennsylvania Railroad Auxiliary, the VFW Cooties and American Legion Auxiliary. She had also been a Red Cross volunteer.
She was a 1943 graduate of Tyrone High School.
Gladys enjoyed making homemade quilts, reading, walking and canning.
She went to be with her husband, whom she deeply loved and missed after being married for 50 years.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at Feller Memorial Home with the Rev. Norman E. Huff officiating. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday. Interment will follow at Baughman Cemetery.
