Eckenrode cards 78 to take lead

HOLLIDAYSBURG-Central Cambria's Jeremy Eckenrode carded a 78 to lead all golfers in the first day of the District 6 Class AA boys individual golf championship Tuesday at Scotch Valley Country Club.

Tyler Brown (Claysburg-Kimmel) and Ian Dunmyer (Penn Cambria) each shot a 79 to finish one stroke back of the lead, while Central Cambria's Dom Stevens finished with an 80.

Other area golfers included Central Cambria's Gabe Seymour (83), Bellwood-Antis' Adam Osborne (84) and Penn Cambria's Nolan Link (85) and Dillon Perino (85).

Eckenrode helped lead Central Cambria finish with the lowest team score (331), while Penn Cambria finished as a team with a 338.

Shields takes lead

HOLLIDAYSBURG-Hollidaysburg's duo of Hunter Shields (74) and Jesse Ottaway (77) were the top two finishers in day one of the District 6 Class AAA individual boys golf championship.

Hollidaysburg as a team finished nine strokes back of leader State College, while Altoona's Trentin Martin carded an 80 to help the Mountain Lions to a team score of 359.

Ben Gelenberg (77) and Tyrus Gates (78) of State College were the other two finishers in the top five.

CROSS COUNTRY

Lady Devils ease by MU

BELLWOOD - Ellen Crook won the girls race in 19:34 to lead Bellwood-Antis to a 26-30 win over Mount Union in high school cross country.

The Lady Blue Devils are now 6-4.

The B-A boys fell to 3-7 with a 23-32 loss to the Trojans, despite Bellwood's Isaac Mills winning the race in 18:55

Lady Bearcats fall

HUNTINGDON - Tori Byler scored a goal on an assist from Leah Peachey in sudden death overtime to lead Belleville Mennonite past Huntingdon, 3-2, in high school field hockey.

Ashton Stone and Nora Tietjens scored Huntingdon's goals.

Huntingdon is 4-6.
