Shirley A. Root, 76, Altoona, died Sunday afternoon at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Philipsburg, daughter of the late Galer W. and Verna Mae (Fusselman) Rightnour. She married Carl S. Root on Sept. 4, 1954, in Birmingham, and he preceded her in death on March 1, 1991.
Surviving are three daughters: Barbara A. (Denny) Messner of Bellwood and Diane L. Koller (Don Myers) and Debra J. (Rich) Elliott, both of Altoona; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Eva Mae Stitt, Betty Jane Dickson, Marian Verna Weaver-Ford and Bertha Belle Ludle-Shingler; and two brothers: Galer Willis Jr. and Donald George.
Shirley retired as a cashier at Weis Market, Altoona, and had also worked at Marianna's Fundraisers, Tipton. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Altoona, and enjoyed camping and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, the Rev. Norman Huff officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.
