Gloria Jean Steele, 66, Altoona, died Monday morning at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of Rita E. (Tomlinson) Wagner and the late Zane Hunter Wagner. She married Wayne B. Steele on Dec. 29, 1973, in Cumberland, Md.
Surviving are her husband; two children: Mark A. of Lynwood, Ill., and Aimee L. of Altoona; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her mother, Rita E. Beck of Hollidaysburg; and nine siblings: Donna Lombardo of Ashville, Kathleen Wagner of Altoona, Susan Myers of Ashville, Lynn Stellabotte of Altoona, Vicky Baldauf and Bobbie Wagner, both of Tyrone, Zane Hunter Wagner Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, Fred Eugene Wagner of Harrisburg and James Randell Wagner of Flinton.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Richard M. Beck.
Jean was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School. She received an associate degree in nursing from Purdue University in 1984 and a Bachelor of Science degree as a certified rehabilitation registered nurse from Northwestern University in Chicago in 1986.
Jean retired in 2010 as a certified rehabilitation registered nurse at Bon Secours Hospital with five years of service. Previously, she had worked at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Altoona. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
Friends will be received from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.
