Steven R. "Chef" St. Martin, 63, Altoona, died Thursday evening at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Plymouth, Mass., son of the late John B. and Lena (Tarantino) Martin. He married Susan D. Clark on Feb. 19, 1994, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Susan; a daughter, Trichelle R. Stone and her husband, Tom, of Dillwyn, Va.; two grandchildren: Brennan Michael Stone and Lauren Elizabeth Stone; two brothers: John Martin in Massachusetts and Dennis Martin and his wife, Patty, of Kingston, Mass.; his mother-in-law, Rosella Clark of Hollidaysburg; two sisters-in-law, Valerie Knowles and her husband, Gary, of Duncannon and Dana Clark of Sunnyside, Wash.; numerous nieces and nephews; and his special "brother," Karl Ullein.
Steve was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Dr. Daniel Clark.
Steve was a 1968 graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Kingston, Mass.; a graduate of the Culinary Institute of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and attended fire school in Susanville, Calif. He was self-employed as a personal chef.
Steve attended New Life Missionary Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking, especially for his family. A jack-of-all-trades, Steve also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, working in his garden, and loved the sea and enjoyed spending time at the ocean.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, and 10 to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, the Rev. Terry Farr officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brennan Stone scholarship fund at Fork Union Military Academy, c/o the funeral home or to St. Vincent DePaul Food for Families program, Family Kitchen, 2201 Union Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
