Penn State will play West Virginia in a home-and-home series in 2023-24, with the Nittany Lions hosting the Mountaineers the first year and traveling to Morgantown the second.
The Lions' 2023 non-conference schedule also includes a home game against Virginia Tech, so the addition of West Virginia gives PSU two marquee non-conference games at Beaver Stadium that year.
West Virginia will play at Penn State on Sept. 2, 2023, and Virginia Tech will visit Sept. 16. The return trip to Morgantown will be on Aug. 31, 2024, and PSU will visit Virginia Tech on Sept. 17, 2022.
"We are excited to announce this football series with West Virginia," PSU athletic director Dave Joyner said in a university statement. "The renewal of our West Virginia rivalry is a series our alumni and fans have wanted to see on our future schedules.
"I am appreciative of the efforts of [West Virginia AD] Oliver Luck in getting our two schools together again. As we prepare to move to a nine-game Big Ten schedule [in 2016], I am very pleased that we have been to able to schedule old rivals like West Virginia and Pitt and add Virginia Tech in upcoming years."
Penn State and West Virginia have played 59 times dating back to 1904 and played every season from 1947-92. The Lions lead the series, 48-9-2.
