In today's fast-paced world of technology, young people rarely take time to read a newspaper, let alone keep current on what's happening around them.
As a high school teacher, I see this daily but fortunately, the situation is changing thanks to the Altoona Mirror and its Newspaper In Education program.
The Mirror provides newspapers at no charge which we use regularly in our law/current events classes.
Our readings are followed by discussions on the topics of the day which include national, international, state and local issues.
Not only do the students learn from this activity, but they have actually come to enjoy reading a newspaper.
My sincerest thanks to the Mirror and all NIE sponsors for making this educational opportunity available.
