Edith I. Johnson Tortoreo, 88, Altoona, died Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Antonio and Teresa (Restauri) Martellacci. She was twice married, first to Robert A. Johnson, then to Salvatore Tortoreo. They both preceded her in death.
Surviving are two stepdaughters: Sally Rice of Venice, Fla., and Victoria Layaw of Arcadia, Fla.; three sisters: Mafalda Scalzi of Altoona, Lena Derasmo in North Carolina and Dora Gandy of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Freet; and three brothers: Warren, Daniel and Nicholas Martellacci.
Edith was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School. She had worked in the payroll department of Puritan Knitting Mills from 1943-52 and in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., she had worked at Houdaille Industries. She had also worked at Wright Concrete Co. from 1953-93.
Edith was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Roy A. Steward Jr. Interment will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
