Dick L. Hess, 74, of Preston Street, Bedford, died Friday at UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh.
He was born in Pittsburgh, son of the late Thomas L. and Pauline (Wenrick) Hess. He married Shirley L. Cornelius on June 8, 1958, in Saxton.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Jeffrey and wife, Lizette (Tanon), of Bedford; three grandchildren: Erika, Zachary and Haden; and a sister, Alice Mae Heffner of Roaring Spring.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Fred, Earl and infant Jack.
Dick was a Pennsylvania state representative who served the 78th District and was currently serving as the majority chairman of the House Transportation Committee. He was a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and served on the House Rules Committee and Republican Policy Committee. He also served on the Pennsylvania Infrastructure and Investment Authority (PENNVEST) Board of Directors.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home, Bedford. Friends will also be received from 10 a.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at Akers Funeral Chapel, 715 Church St., Saxton, Jim Miller officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery, Saxton.
