Donald E. Garver, 80, North Carolina, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died Friday at his home after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Altoona, son of Howard and Marian Garver. He married Marcella Bosso.
Surviving are his wife of more than 50 years; two sons: Timothy and wife, Jennifer, and Chuck and wife, Lisa; three grandchildren: Danielle, Nicholas and Melissa, who were the pride and joy of his life; two brothers: Hugh and wife, Helen, of Altoona and Robert and wife, Mary, of Albuquerque, N.M.; three sisters-in-law: Susan Castagnola of Altoona, Dolores Colitto of Tyrone and Elvera Albright of Glen Burnie, Md.; and two brothers-in-law: Samuel Colitto of Tyrone and Richard Albright of Glen Burnie, Md.
Don retired from Penn State Altoona. An avid fisherman and hunter, he had a lifelong love of the mountains, lakes and streams of Pennsylvania. He enjoyed gardening, cheering for the Steelers, Pirates and Nittany Lions, and he especially enjoyed watching his three grandchildren's sporting events and other activities.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. memorial service on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, Benjamin Marney, his close friend, officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Donald may be made to The V Foundation for Cancer Research (www.jimmyv.org/).
