George Eugene Williams, 86, formerly of Altoona and Hollidaysburg, passed away early Tuesday morning at Homewood at Martinsburg.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Carl G. and Mildred L. (Lingenfelter) Williams. He married Elaine "Joy" Kucharek on Dec. 1, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife of Homewood at Martinsburg; a son, Mark A. and wife, Diane, of Yorktown, Va.; a daughter, Wendy A. McCauley and husband, Shawn, of rural Williamsburg; two grandchildren: Myles McCauley and Hannah Williams; two sisters: Doris Royer of Thompson, Ohio, and Kathleen Endress of Altoona; and a brother, Carl G. Jr. of State College.
George was a 1944 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Guam and attaining the rank of ship's serviceman third class. He retired in 1988 as a production manager for North American Philips [formerly Sylvania and GTE Sylvania], Altoona, with more than 38 years of service.
He was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, and a life member of Park Hills Country Club, Altoona. He was also a member of Logan Lodge 490, F&AM, Altoona, the Jaffa Shrine, where he formerly served in the Drum and Bugle Corps, and D. Merle Tipton VFW Post 43, Martinsburg.
George enjoyed spending time with his family and playing golf.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing. A private funeral service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, Pastor Scott E. Schul officiating. Interment will follow at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
The family prefers that memorial contributions be given to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
